Extraterrestrial Cognition and Sensoria Fiction

Calling all Hammerheads!
Dear Hammerheads,

For a Philosophy & SciFi class I'm piloting spring semester, I'm seeking recommendations of sci fi, preferably short, that depicts either extraterrestrial cognition or extraterrestrial phenomenology.

What's good? Whatchoogot?

Cheers,

Pete

  1. I thought that Contact, with Jodie Foster, was a film that had good metaphysical themes.

  2. Novels unfortunately, but one could excerpt the relevant bits:

    China Mieville Embassytown
Peter Watts Blindsight [see his website for short stories that would also be relevant eg The Thing retold in the first person]
    Ian Watson The Embedding

Unfortunately, narrators of such stories are often uncomprehending humans.
